Friday night as the sun was setting, club members enjoyed pizza and salad after a hard day setting up for Field Day. Wife of the Club President, Leslie Gise, performed a traditional hula selected to entice Maui to walk back up to the top of Haleakala and instead of slowing down the sun, put sun spots on it and encourage good propagation for the following days exercises. Tom reported on Monday that the hula must have worked because the sunspot count increased from 37 to 112. It really made a difference. President Tom Worthington called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. The treasurer’s report and meeting minutes were approved, and accepted by acclamation. 11 members and guests attended. Talk Around: K6GSS-John: Tested the IC7000 for Field Day. NH6Y-Tom: WPX CW contest, made 72 contacts. Working W1AW stations, multiple modes. Lots of Field Day preparations. N0DQD-Bob : No amateur radio this month. Working on airplane. KH6CJJ-Kent: 40 M morning and afternoon nets. WPX CW contest, 10M not too good. 15 open to Europe. 740 contacts. KH6H-Mel: Alpha and Tentec are merging. AH6AH-Anita: Nothing to report this month. KH6JAY-Jay: Flagpole antenna, has Korean callsign worked PSK31 in South Korea. WH6DUE- Devin: Setting up a wifi network for his property. Planning on a tower. AD6E – Alan: Just moved to Maui, thinking about working Field Day. Mostly a CW operator. WH6EAV-Marvin: Nothing to report this month. KH6PO-Diane: Some radio, worked with Tom for antenna takedown. Reworked shack, will be putting up a hex beam. Currently only using 100W and a vertical. Looking forward to FD. KH6RSB-Shawn: Busy with work, excited for Field Day. KH6H-Mel: Skywarn training, 2 more sessions. Fri July 11 6:30-8:30, Sat July 12 Cert . FCC to grant credit of elements for expired licenses. Outside 2 years of expiration date, need to retest for element 2. Makani Pahili work, HF assumed only thing working. If you’re interested in emergency communication you need to know how to use FLDIGI MT63. HF noise was pretty high. Voice communication very difficult. FLDIGI was working. This year’s exercise was the largest. Next year will include active military. HF antenna on top of County building isn’t working very well, Suggested to have a spare antenna. This month’s discussion is Field Day preparation- MEO is providing the van. Pacifc Portables will be available. Site and blockhouse are in good shape. Antennas are packed up and ready to go. Joe has 30’ push up mast and John is bringing a crank up tower. Need 5 tables. Bob M has the generator. Need more stakes this year. Need kite string for antennas. Tom has borrowed a generator from a neighbor. Need sign-in sheet. Count for Saturday night dinner – 15. Press release forwarded to Maui News. Need visitor’s log. Those not familiar with the tube amplifiers need to consult. 20M station at Kent’s house Omni VII and Bandit amplifier. Has RTTY and WinKey. Will bring headset and earphones. External speaker will be available. Laptop, mouse, mousepad, and lamp. Chair. Bob will have 15 M station Ten Tec Orion SB220, RTTY, Paddle, Earphones, Need mouse, and mousepad, Dunestar linked to Orion. Need external display. John-IC7000 for 10/40M. AL-80 amp. Will bring L4B amp as spare, 1000W out. Band pass manual operation. Has RTTY interface. Alan will check to see if he has a WinKey for the 10/40 station. John will bring CW paddle. John has headset and earphones and footswitch. Power strips for all bands. Bob to bring power meter, Tom to bring 2 power meters. Tom to bring extra coax. Desk light needed for all stations. Everyone should bring their water and snacks, sunscreen, work gloves and hats. Devin, Amanda, Diane, and Shawn are planning to spend the weekend there;. Bring square point shovels. Bring fan.
